We’re seeking a Team Lead for our Onboarding Team to drive and optimize the end-to-end integration process with banks, acquirers, and financial institutions. In this pivotal role, you’ll coordinate everything from initial requirements alignment to complete documentation submission, ensuring accounts are opened quickly and efficiently. You’ll lead by example - balancing hands-on execution with strategic oversight - while building strong relationships with banking partners, regulators, and internal teams.
This role is perfect for a fintech professional with deep knowledge of regulatory and banking processes, strong leadership skills, and a passion for turning complex onboarding challenges into seamless, scalable solutions.
Responsibilities
Bank Integration & Onboarding:
- Launch and manage integration processes with banks, acquirers, and financial institutions.
- Define and align on key banking requirements, integration expectations, and the company’s technical and compliance capabilities.
- Coordinate all onboarding stages: collection, preparation, and submission of complete documentation packages.
- Maintain communication with banks until account opening and onboarding are fully completed.
Documentation Management:
- Prepare and structure compliance reports, financial statements, processing history, and other regulatory documentation for banks, acquirers, and supervisory authorities.
- Collect and manage contracts, agreements, and accounting documents required for onboarding and ongoing operations.
- Respond to requests from banks and regulators during onboarding and operational activities.
- Ensure all documentation is up-to-date, complete, and compliant with regulatory requirements.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Work closely with cross-functional teams: commercial, IT, legal, and senior management.
- Conduct negotiations with banks, acquirers, and financial institutions regarding onboarding and regulatory processes.
- Provide consulting on regulatory requirements for financial companies, VASPs (Virtual Asset Service Providers), and crypto exchanges.
- Maintain and develop strong, long-term partnerships with banks and financial institutions.
Requirements
Requirements:
- Minimum 4 years of experience in fintech, EMI, or PSP companies - preferably those working with high-risk clients or VASPs.
- In-depth knowledge of KYC, KYB, AML procedures, as well as safeguarding, and other regulatory requirements relevant to VASP and high-risk operations.
- Good understanding of EU regulatory frameworks (e.g., MiCA, FCA requirements) and willingness to quickly learn Canadian regulatory specifics (e.g., MSB licensing, FINTRAC, local banking practices).
- Strong understanding of banking and regulatory processes, particularly in the context of complex or non-standard cases.
- Familiarity with payment industry workflows and mechanisms. Experience in acquiring is a plus, but not strictly required.
- Hands-on experience in preparing documentation packages for onboarding, account openings, and direct communication with regulators, banks, and acquirers.
- Practical knowledge of VASPs, their licensing standards, and regulatory obligations.
- Fluent English (written and spoken).
Key Competencies:
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build relationships with banks, internal teams, and regulators.
- High attention to detail and the ability to structure complex processes efficiently.
- Ability to analyze regulatory risks and respond effectively to complex requests.
- A hands-on mindset - someone who’s not afraid of manual work (e.g., preparing or fixing documents), jumping in where needed, or temporarily covering teammates during absences or spikes in workload. Ability to lead by example and set a high standard of execution.
Leadership Qualities:
- Capable of supporting and developing a team, serving as a reliable and inspiring leader.
- Organize onboarding and banking processes to improve efficiency.
- Communicate ideas clearly and effectively; actively listen to team members and partners.
- Make balanced decisions by assessing risks and identifying optimal solutions.
- Help the team and company adapt to regulatory and operational changes.
